The Hampton City Council held a budget workshop Monday night focused on street improvements and early planning for the city’s fiscal year 2027 budget.

During the workshop at City Hall, council members heard updates from Public Works Director Doug Tarr and Police Chief Mark Morrison on department operations. Mark Crawford of Crawford Engineering presented a map outlining streets being considered for resurfacing and told the council that 30 blocks of street resurfacing have been completed in Hampton since 2020.

Council members reached a consensus to have Crawford Engineering prepare a bid for the proposed resurfacing projects, with additions including the alley behind Napa and Pit Row and the alley next to Git-N-Go.

City Manager Ron Dunt also provided a high-level overview of fiscal year 2027 budget considerations. He noted that property tax reform remains a top priority during the upcoming state legislative session and encouraged the council to keep that in mind as the budget process moves forward.
