Hampton’s Public Works Director is warning drivers about the dangers of ignoring traffic control devices near active work zones.
In an email sent to RadioOnTheGo News Wednesday, Tarr said city crews and contractors will be conducting tree work around the community over the next few weeks. He says there have been incidents of motorists driving past, over, and through traffic control devices, which is a traffic violation.
Tarr notes that traffic cones are placed for the safety of both motorists and workers. He says one incident reported Wednesday involved a driver traveling over cones and through a blocked-off construction site while a large tree was being cut down, creating a potentially hazardous situation.
Tarr is reminding motorists to pay attention to temporary traffic control devices and avoid areas that are clearly blocked off for safety reasons. The incident has been reported to the Hampton Police Department.
