The Belmond-Klemme basketball teams will host Northwood-Kensett in a Top of Iowa Conference doubleheader Thursday.
The girls game will feature a rematch between the two teams, which met earlier this season. Belmond-Klemme won that meeting 41-26, earning its only victory so far during the 2025-26 season.
Head Coach James Severson says the rematch provides an opportunity to measure his team’s progress since the early-season matchup.
“The first time we played Northwood was really early on in the season,” says Severson. “We were really trying to figure a lot of things out for us and I know Northwood was as well. So, I think it’ll be a really good game for us, for both teams. I think it’s going to be really competitive and I’m hoping to see a lot of the growth, a lot of that drive-kick, a lot of extra pass, blocking out the backside, and taking away second chance points.”
Kendra Huedepole leads the Broncos in scoring, while Kaylen Morris paces the team in rebounds and assists.
Northwood-Kensett enters the girls game with a 1-4 conference record, looking to reverse an early-season slide in Top of Iowa play.
In the boys game, Belmond-Klemme looks to continue its strong conference run. The Broncos enter with a 5-2 conference record, placing them among the top three teams in the Top of Iowa West standings.
Brody Heifner leads the Broncos in scoring and rebounds, while Griffin Paulsen paces the team in assists.
The Vikings enter the game still seeking their first conference win.
Tipoff is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. in Belmond.
