The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows School Board of Directors approved new guidelines for open gym use and took action on student behavior initiatives during its meeting Thursday afternoon.
Following a closed session to review principal candidates, the board voted 5-0 to allow open gym access on Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m., with later use requiring administrative approval. Under the policy, individuals must complete a background check, sign a liability waiver and pay a $100 fee for a key fob, with a partial refund available upon its return and verification of no damages.
During the meeting, Dean of Students Tricia Rosendahl and Activities Director Brad Kahler presented data showing an increase in student behavior incidents compared to last year, though officials noted improved bus behavior and emphasized that most students are responding positively to added support.
Superintendent Joe Nelson highlighted strong performances by winter sports teams and announced upcoming elementary and middle school principal interviews scheduled for Jan. 29.
