Falcon Hoops heading to Wapsie Valley for NICL clash Friday

Aplington-Parkersburg will travel to Wapsie Valley for an NICL basketball doubleheader Friday, which’ll air on 99 The Wave and RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel.
The girls (5-5, 4-4 NICL) snapped a five-game losing streak with Tuesday’s 53-40 win at home over Jesup. They overcame a night of 17 turnovers by shooting 44 percent from three-point range to get back on track.

Wapsie Valley (4-6, 4-5 NICL) has lost five of its last six, but AP Coach Brady Driscol says the Warriors are among the league teams that can contend with anyone.

“You can’t look by anybody in the league anymore,” Driscol says. “You just got to go in knowing that you’re going to get a good game from everybody, and you’ve got to give your best every night because the other teams are always going to be giving their best. It leads to some close competitive games, which are fun. You need those games going into postseason to be in those opportunities, because the deeper you get in the postseason runs, the closer the games are going to be. And it just comes down to who can execute.”

The Falcon boys (7-2, 7-1 NICL) have won two straight to begin January, including a 65-42 win over Jesup Tuesday where they shot a crisp 47 percent. #2 (1A) Wapsie Valley (8-2, 7-2 NICL) has lost consecutive games to East Marshall and Grundy Center.

Coverage will start at 6:00 p.m., followed by the tipoff at 6:15.
