The Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys wrestling team swept Iowa Falls-Alden and Charles City, the Bulldog girls and both Cadet teams went 1-1 at a double triangular Thursday, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ and RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel.

In the final dual of the night, the Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys beat the Cadets 46-21. Highlight wins by the Bulldogs included pins by Brody Strother at 138, Jory Angstman at 157, Joseph Cruz at 175 and Maddon Evans at 215.

“Pretty good fight from all our guys for the most part,” Head Coach Colin Muller says. “We preach wrestling for six minutes hard no matter what. It doesn’t matter about the outcome of the score. Win, lose, draw. If you fight for six minutes, we’ll be happy for you. The first dual went our way. Charles City didn’t have a full lineup, but they some good athletes, some good wrestlers. Glad we battled that way. Iowa Falls-Alden was my first one for that rivalry. I hope there’s many more. It was awfully intense in here, and I love a nice, hot atmosphere. Our guys brought it, and they fought hard the whole time, which is awesome to see.”

The Cadets had a pin by Zach Smith at 113, a technical fall by Kolbe Hansen at 126, a major decision by Zane Gillespie at 120, and overtime wins by Kyler Patton at 150 and Trayvahn Williams at 285.

“Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s got a good program, they’ve been good for quite a few years now,” Head Coach Scott Patton says. “We came in hoping to get a shot to beat them, but we were a little shorthanded tonight. That’s no excuse, but we had three varsity regulars out of the lineup. It kind of set us back a little bit, but I thought the guys competed really hard, gave it their all, and gave us a shot. That’s all we can ask for, their best effort every time out, and I think we got that for the most part tonight.”

Each team had lopsided wins over Charles City, with the Bulldogs winning 63-14 and the Cadets winning 57-18.

The Cadet girls defeated Hampton-Dumont-CAL 42-24. They got pins by Kymri Koenigsfeld at 125, Brooklyn Gehling at 130, Aubree Silvey at 135, Lauryn Silvey at 140 and Ryleigh Hilpipre at 145.

The Bulldogs defeated Charles City 36-30 and the Comets beat the Cadets 34-30.
