Iowa blood donors could win Super Bowl tickets

This is one of the slowest times of the year for the American Red Cross to recruit blood donors in Iowa, prompting the agency to launch a special incentive aimed at boosting donations.

Regional Red Cross spokeswoman Emily Holley says anyone who donates blood through Jan. 25 will be automatically entered for a chance to win a trip for two to the Super Bowl next month in San Francisco. The prize package includes round-trip airfare and a three-night hotel stay.

Holley says donor participation typically declines during the early weeks of winter, making it more challenging to maintain an adequate blood supply for hospitals and critical care needs.
