
A theater company in the northern Iowa town of St. Ansgar has received an $18,000 federal grant to produce musical theater productions celebrating American history this summer.
Cedar Summerstock Theatre Executive Artistic Director Nancy Nickerson Lee says musical theater is an effective way to tell stories rooted in American culture and history.
The company’s internship and apprenticeship program brings college students and young people from across the country to St. Ansgar each summer to train as actors and technicians while producing professional-level shows.
The National Endowment for the Arts announced more than $16 million in grants nationwide as part of an initiative supporting projects tied to the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
