Hampton-Dumont-CAL will travel to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows for a North Central Conference basketball doubleheader Friday, which’ll air on 104.9 KLMJ and RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel.
The Bulldog boys (4-6, 2-3 NCC) are in an important part of the schedule where they’ll finish their first time through conference play and begin playing rematches.
“You can get this win, you can kind of turn the tables here from last season to this season, which then propels us back to NCC work here at Clarion on Friday,” Head Coach Matt Lokenvitz says. “And if we can go in and get one from Clarion, now all of a sudden the wheels can start turning. We can start doing some of those things. But can you now improve on that second half? Can you win more games in the NCC in the second half than you did the first half? If you can, you’re probably up and around that third and fourth spot in the conference. If you can’t, that’s where you’re down in that sixth or seventh or eighth spot.”
The Bulldogs will look to ride the recent hot streak of senior Brady Harr, who has recorded a double-double of points and rebounds in five straight games.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (7-2, 4-2 NCC) has won four straight and is in the midst of a stretch of five games in eight days. Head Coach Jason Berning says they’ll need to dig deep and take one game at a time.
“It’s going to test us just from a physical standpoint, but to this point, we really haven’t gone through a stretch like that,” Berning says. “So I do think we’re up for it competitively. We just want to take one game at a time. And we just said, continue to rise. We want to rise to our competition, rise to the schedule. And we just feel there’s a lot of opportunity in front of us with these games.”
The Bulldog girls (3-9, 1-5 NCC) have lost four straight in conference play, but overpowered Charles City Tuesday for their first win of January. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (0-10, 0-6 NCC) will look to use the opportunity to continue to develop their program.
Coverage will start at 6:00 p.m., followed by the tipoff at 6:15.
