GOP activists in two Iowa counties are speaking out in support of Republican Sen. Doug Campbell of Mason City, who was among a dozen senators who declined to vote on budget bills last year until carbon pipeline restrictions were debated.

Records on the Iowa Legislature’s website show Campbell has been removed from all five Senate committees on which he served last year.

Republicans in Cerro Gordo County, Campbell’s home county, are calling on Senate Republican leaders to reconsider the decision. The Plymouth County Republican Party has also passed a resolution accusing Senate Republican Leader Mike Klimesh of what it described as a “brazen act of political retribution” against Campbell.

A spokesperson for Klimesh was not immediately available for comment.
