The West Fork boys wrestling team made the most of a long road trip, going 2-1 at a quad at North Union on Thursday, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ. The Warhawks won 42-30 over North Union, won 54-30 over rival Newman Catholic and lost 59-18 to Estherville Lincoln Central.

Against North Union, three Warhawks won by fall including Kaiyn Peterson at 126, Brooks Jones at 138 and Jensen Robbins at 285. The Warhawks scored the rest of their points in dual by open weight forfeits.

Against Newman Catholic, three Warhawks won by fall including Jameson O’Connor at 113, Preston Starr at 144 and Aaron Ihrke at 165. The Warhawks scored the rest of their points in dual by open weight forfeits.

Against Estherville Lincoln Central, three Warhawks won by fall including O’Connor at 113, Jones at 138 and Robbins at 215.

O’Connor at 113, Jones at 138 and Robbins at 215 and 285 each went 3-0 with two falls and a win by forfeit to lead the Warhawks lineup. Jones, working back from injury, wrestled for the first time since December 11. He shares his thoughts on the team’s performance and his journey back to the competition mat.

“I’m very happy with how our team wrestled today. We persevered. We just went out there, wrestled our best and did our best. That’s all I could ask for, for our team,” says Jones. “It was a lot of hard work in the room, a lot of practicing, a lot of maintaining weight. Making sure I was eating the right things. Making sure I wasn’t re-injuring myself in practice. Just going at a steady pace.”

Head Coach Keaton Wilson says the team wrestled with a spark.

“These boys showed me this week in the room, that they wanted it. It lit a spark in them that I haven’t seen this year,” says Wilson. “I really, really hope we can continue that spark into the postseason. Two big wins. Last year, we lost to both these teams. I’m very ecstatic with how we wrestled tonight.”

West Fork will return to action at the Cougar Invite hosted by AGWSR on Saturday.
