Playing Hudson for the second time this season, the Aplington-Parkersburg basketball teams split a home doubleheader Friday. The girls fell 61-52 and the boys won 69-43.

In the girls game, the Falcons found an early advantage, leading 29-25 at halftime. They led for most of the game, including by double digits at times. But the Pirates closed the gap in the final four minutes. Head Coach Brady Driscol says they let it slip away.

“Almost identical to last time we played them, where we had a solid first half and then a solid third quarter,” Driscol says. “And they kept chipping away, chipping away, and were able to hang on at the end. We put together good bits and pieces. Just haven’t quite put together the full four quarters.”

Kiara Morris led with 14 points, Eva Walker scored 13, Kolbie Wangsness had 11 and Ava Eddy added 10.

The Falcon boys battled some sloppiness, but pulled away with a 17-5 advantage in the second quarter. With limited minutes for Tyler Wedeking and Trevan Thomas out of the lineup due to injuries, they won soundly despite committing more than 20 turnovers. Benny Waller led with 28 points and Wes Shirk added 16.

They’ll return to action Tuesday by hosting Grundy Center on 99 The Wave and RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel.
