The AGWSR girls and boys basketball teams will battle to defend home floor as they host Gladbrook-Reinbeck in an NICL doubleheader rematch on Tuesday. It will air on 104.9 KLMJ.
The AGWSR girls fell 41-27 at home to East Marshall on Friday. Natalie Sizemore scored 12 points and Claire Culver delivered a team high 10 rebounds against the Mustangs. The Cougars will look to build on one of their better defensive outings with 14 steals against the Mustangs. Head Coach David Koop says the team continues to battle, on the hunt for their first win.
“We’re starting to get more shots to fall. When we’re turning it over a lot, it’s hard to get a rhythm going and to continue to get shots,” says Koop. “The girls are still playing hard and you don’t see that with a team that hasn’t won a game yet. They’re still caring, they’re still fighting, even when the season hasn’t gone the way we want it to necessarily. We’re still fighting.”
The #4 (1A) Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls (11-2, 10-1 NICL) enters off of a 51-44 win at Jesup on Tuesday, January 13. The Rebels earn second chances to score with 12.6 offensive rebounds per game. Kennedy Brant paces the team averaging a double-double with 18.7 points and 14.2 rebounds per game.
The AGWSR boys (3-11, 1-10 NICL) had won back to back games before falling 77-47 at home to East Marshall on Friday. The Cougars over the last week have made strides offensively, exceeding their season average point total in all three games including a season high 70 points against North Tama. Bo Starr leads the team with 15.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
The Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys (3-9, 2-8 NICL) held on for a 40-39 win at Jesup on Tuesday, January 13. The Rebels ability to force turnovers shouldn’t be underestimated with 9.3 steals per game. Trevor Mathern leads the team with 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
Pregame coverage will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by the tip off at 6:15 in Ackley.
