Clarksville and North Butler basketball split rivalry matchup on Monday

The Clarksville and North Butler basketball teams split their annual Butler County rivalry on Monday. The Clarksville girls won 58-44 and the North Butler boys won 59-19. 

In the girls game, it was a back and forth first quarter. North Butler built up a double digit lead in the second quarter and took a 30-20 advantage into halftime. Clarksville with a 10-1 run in the first three and a half minutes of the third quarter rallied to tie the game at 31. The Bearcats and Indians traded buckets for the remainder of the quarter, as the Indians led 42-39 heading to the final quarter. Clarksville outscored the Bearcats 16-5 in fourth to pull away. The Indians with the home victory extended their win streak to three straight games. 

Paige Kampman had 23 points and Hannah Wangsness added 20 to pace the Indians. Jady Thorne had 16 points and Eden Wix added 13 points to lead the Bearcats.

In the boys game, North Butler established their inside-out game at the offensive end and kept Clarksville out of rhythm defensively to take a 29-9 lead at the break. The Bearcats maintained their momentum to outscore the Indians 30-10 in the second half. The Bearcats with the road victory extended their win streak to six games in a row. 

Tucker Pecha had 18 points and Ezra Almelien had 12 points to set the tone for the Bearcats. Boden Miller had six points to lead the Indians.

North Butler will host Central Springs in Top of Iowa East play on Tuesday. Clarksville will host Don Bosco in Iowa Star North action on Tuesday.
