The Hampton City Council held a budget workshop Monday night, hearing public input and discussing several planning items for the upcoming fiscal year.

During public comment, resident Dave Nielson raised concerns about the condition of the city’s youth baseball diamonds and parking in the area. City Manager Ron Dunt later told those in attendance that repairs to the baseball facilities are included in early budget considerations for fiscal year 2027.

The council also discussed a draft ordinance regulating the keeping of chickens within city limits. Residents Sarah Kolb and Jennifer Gruelke, who currently own chickens, attended the meeting and offered feedback. Council members directed staff to research zoning regulations before the issue returns for discussion at a future workshop.

In other business, the council adjusted its budget meeting schedule. A workshop previously set for Jan. 26 was canceled, and a new budget meeting was added for Feb. 3.
