The Hampton-Dumont-CAL basketball teams will have their first rematches of the season when they host Webster City Tuesday.

The girls game will be a matchup of teams near the bottom of the standings, but still with a chance to move up. The Bulldogs got their first win of January at Charles City last week, but had Friday’s game at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows postponed. Of the team’s games that have been decided by fewer than 10 points, only one was a win, when they defeated the Lynx 36-32. Head Coach Miranda Stafford says the team is learning what it takes to turn close losses into wins.

“When it comes to trying win close games, you’ve got to make free throws,” Stafford says. “So we’ve shot a lot of those in hopes that we can get to the line and turn the tide in those close games. We’re hoping to be in those situations again down the stretch here. I know Webster City coming up was a close one there. So we’re hoping to at least have a close one or be on the positive end obviously. Iowa Falls was another close one, a couple of them that will be coming up. Humboldt was another one where we feel like we can have a close game. So I think down the stretch we should have a couple of close games. Having that experience in those close games and just having a little bit more basketball knowledge.”

The Bulldog boys have gone 2-2 since the start of January, including close wins over Charles City and Iowa Falls-Alden. When they played at Webster City in December, they won 47-46. The Lynx have lost six straight, including 54-35 to #1 (1A) St. Edmond on Friday.

The doubleheader will start at 6:00 p.m.
