Drivers across Iowa are seeing a small break at the pump this week as gasoline prices continue to trend lower.
According to AAA, the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa is $2.47 a gallon, down four cents from last week and 43 cents lower than this time last year. The national average on Wednesday stood at $2.83 a gallon.
Prices vary locally. According to GasBuddy, a gallon of regular unleaded as of Wednesday afternoon was $2.67 in Hampton, $2.57 in Eldora, and $2.34 in Clarion.
The drop in gas prices comes as crude oil prices also declined this week. West Texas Intermediate crude fell to $60.42 per barrel, while Brent crude dropped to $64.92. One year ago, both benchmarks were more than $75 per barrel.
Meanwhile, diesel prices moved higher in Iowa, rising 12 cents this week to an average of $3.32 a gallon, though that remains below the national average.
