A Fort Dodge farm family is being recognized for its commitment to animal care, environmental stewardship and community involvement.
Mike Naig presented the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award to Gregg and Liddy Hora during the Iowa Pork Congress in Des Moines. The award honors Iowa livestock farmers who demonstrate responsible farming practices while serving as positive advocates for agriculture.
The Horas are first-generation farmers who began raising hogs after college and gradually built their operation through reinvestment and steady growth. They moved to Fort Dodge in the mid-1980s and expanded their facilities through the 1990s and early 2000s. The farm transitioned to contract hog production in 2015 and now raises wean-to-finish hogs while also growing corn and soybeans.
Naig praised the Horas for engaging with neighbors and the broader community, saying their approach helps build trust and understanding about modern agriculture.
The Horas are longtime leaders in the pork industry and active volunteers in Webster County. The award is in its 22nd year and is presented through a partnership involving the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and several agriculture organizations.
