The Sheffield City Council is moving forward on several budget-related items and infrastructure discussions following action taken at its January meeting.
During the Jan. 12 regular session, council members approved a fiscal year 2026 budget amendment. The council also approved a tax abatement request for a home at 511 Maple Street.
City officials reviewed preliminary findings on potential road repair projects tied to a future tax increment financing district. Engineers noted that some streets may require full removal and replacement rather than simple overlays due to drainage concerns. Council members agreed to revisit the issue in February after reviewing fiscal year 2027 budget numbers.
The council also approved working with Franklin County on adding a concrete floor to the city’s sand and salt shed, with the county covering materials and the city responsible for labor costs. That project is expected to be considered as part of the next budget.
In other action, council members approved a transfer of water funds, adopted a policy to round utility bills to the nearest nickel beginning with February billing, and made updates to mayoral board appointments.
