Hampton-Dumont-CAL and West Fork’s basketball teams will meet for their annual Coaches vs. Cancer games Saturday, which’ll air on 99 The Wave.

Hampton-Dumont-CAL Coach Miranda Stafford says the annual event allows the two communities to come together to support a greater cause.

“I love that both teams will have their t-shirts and community members and families joined and have the same t-shirt, but representing both teams,” Stafford says. “And I think it’s just a great way to join two communities for the same cause, but still competing against one another, but also competing to beat a bigger cause, to beat something together. Hopefully we can get a lot of people out to raise some money and represent, fight for those people who are fighting for something bigger than basketball.”

West Fork Coach Rodney Huber says it’s an event they always look forward to.

“The Coaches versus Cancer is a neat event that we put on for good cause and all that. It’s always a fun time, a good atmosphere. And then of course, on the girls side at least, the games have been really good and really competitive the last few years. So yeah, it’s something we look forward to every year and no different this year.”

As part of the day’s events, a silent auction will be held at West Fork High School beginning at 3:15 p.m. through halftime of the boys game. A meal of chili and chicken noodle soup will begin at 4:30. During the games, a bucket will be passed around the crowd, allowing attendees to make donations. All proceeds from the event will go toward Coaches vs. Cancer.

Saturday’s games will start at 6:00 p.m.
