Some of the top boys wrestling teams in the North Central Conference will meet Thursday when Iowa Falls-Alden hosts #2 (2A) Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and #9 (2A) Algona for a triangular. It’ll air on 104.9 KLMJ.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Coach Cory Yoder says this is a meet they’ve had circled on the calendar.
“This is one we’ve been waiting for since last year,” Yoder says. “I thought we could have gave Algona a better meet last year in the finals than we did during the regular season, because they were by far the best dual team in the state by far last year. We had everybody back down to weight. We thought we could give them a better chance. But we’re ready for this. Our kids have been waiting for this. And we’re hoping to win those two meets on Thursday and come back and win the conference title again for the Cowboys on Saturday. That’s our main goal right now. Then we’ll shift focus to the state dual, regional duals after that. But our main focus is Iowa Falls, and then conference this weekend.”
They’re coming off a championship at Saturday’s Doc Carr Duals at New Hampton.
The Cadets will enter off a 2-0 performance at a quad at Forest City Tuesday, where they got wins over the hosts and Garner Hayfield Ventura.
Algona last competed at Saturday’s Creston Invitational, where they tied for the team title with one individual title and two runner-ups.
Coverage will start at 5:45 p.m., followed by the first dual at 6:00.
