The Rockwell City Council began early budget planning and reviewed several policy and infrastructure items during its regular meeting Wednesday night.

Mayor Larry Wentz reported the city’s finance committee recently held a budget workshop, with the tax levy scheduled for review at the council’s next meeting before submission to the county auditor

The council also discussed provisions of the city’s proposed vacancy tax ordinance, including fine structures and enforcement procedures. Members agreed notices should be sent by certified mail and hand delivered, with a $25 certification fee, but additional questions prompted further review of the ordinance.

Traffic control was also addressed, as council members reviewed costs for new stop and speed signs. The issue was tabled to allow for additional discussion and evaluation of options.

Council members also received updates on community fire service projects and garbage rates ahead of July increases.
