CGD Head Coach Cory Yoder highlights the team’s marquee win over Algona and their ultimate goal for the season.

“An awesome feeling. We kind of lost to Algona last year in a big one. They took it to us last year. We had this one circled on our calendar for a long time. Tonight our kids showed they were ready to go in that first meeting. It showed in a big win over a very good Algona team, who’s going to make some noise in the regional duals,” says Yoder. “Our team has come together, as you see we’re a tight-knit group. We got guys that can fill in for spots, as you saw. We’re going to keep getting better and better. The focus on the line down is, conference this week then regional duals. Our main focus coming in this year was that dual state title. We want that dual state title.”

IFA Head Coach Scott Patton reflects on the Cadets performance and the team’s work to get healthy.

“The team scores didn’t end up the way we wanted it to. We kind of knew that coming in with the open weights that we had tonight, against two very good teams, top of the conference. We wanted the guys we had in the lineup to compete hard, and I think that’s what they did for the most part. Right now we got to get healthy. That’s the biggest thing for us,” says Patton. “We get to the end of the season, you got to look forward to districts. We had a couple guys maybe who could have gone tonight. There’s really no reason to push it, just a few weeks out from district tournament. Hopefully next week or so we get those guys healthy, get them back and get them competing before we get to districts.”

Up next all three teams will compete at the North Central Conference tournament at Humboldt on Saturday. It will air on 104.9 KLMJ.
