During Thursday’s Hampton City Council meeting, council member Jim Davies, who chairs the Hampton Historic Preservation Commission, presented the commission’s 2025 annual report, which the council formally accepted.

The report highlighted the commission’s work on education programs and community engagement, including volunteering at the Harriman-Nielsen Fall Festival, helping plan the Hampton Public Library’s 120th anniversary celebration, and hosting the seventh annual Memorial Day cemetery walk, which drew more than 100 attendees.

The commission also oversaw the installation of three permanent memorial benches in Band Shell Park.

Looking ahead, the 2026 workplan includes collaboration on building improvement grants, a Preservation Month scavenger hunt in May, updates to the historic main street walking tour, projects with the Friends of the Cemetery, and participation in the 2026 Preserve Iowa Summit, as well as updates for the city’s 150th anniversary celebration.

The next regular meeting of the Hampton City Council is February 12th.
