
An opportunity to bring awareness and support the fight. The West Fork basketball teams will host Hampton-Dumont-CAL in the annual Franklin County Coaches vs Cancer games on Saturday. It will air on 99 The Wave.
The West Fork boys (4-7) won 80-34 at home over Northwood-Kensett on Tuesday. The Warhawks have controlled the boards with 36.5 rebounds per game (second most in TIC-East). Zander Hansen leads the team with 13.9 points per game at 37.9 percent shooting from the field. Head Coach Abe Maske highlights the greater goal of the event.
“We’re looking forward to them. We’ll be prepared for them. Again, going in, we’re going to have to play our game,” says Maske. “It really comes down to, it’s about helping to continue to raise awareness for cancer research, to help support those that are fighting cancer. Then helping provide whatever funds we can to help go towards the research, to help cure cancer in the future.”
The Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys (5-7) fell 69-31 at home to #2 (3A) Clear Lake on Thursday. The Bulldogs keep the ball moving offensively with 13.6 assists per game. Brady Harr paces the team averaging a double-double with 20.4 points and 13.9 rebounds per game. Head Coach Matt Lokenvitz shares how the Bulldogs are preparing for gameday without practice on Friday.
“Usually it’s a back and forth battle between us and West Fork. We’re gonna go and compete there,” says Lokenvitz. “Friday we didn’t have school as well and couldn’t have any practices. We’re going with the communication over electronic again. Hopefully they’re taking care of their bodies. We’ll go in and try to get ourselves another win. Trying to get one game closer to .500 on the season.”
The West Fork girls (6-6) have won back to back games including a 54-15 win at home over Northwood-Kensett on Tuesday. Brylee Dickman leads the team with 11.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls (4-10) fell 51-18 at home to Clear Lake on Thursday. MacKenzy Valley sets the tone with 14.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.
