The North Central Conference Boys Wrestling Tournament took place Saturday at Humboldt, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ and RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows earned the team title with 255 points, 12 shy of the meet record. Six Cowboys earned titles, including Cole Wibholm at 106, Paxton Redenius at 113, Adrian Phetxoumphone at 126, Linden Phetxoumphone at 132, Colin Sesker at 157 and JT Kelso at 285.

“I can’t believe it, 255 points, came close to breaking the record, came really close,” Head Coach Cory Yoder says. “We had 10 finalists, six champs and four runner-ups. Great day for CGD today. We’re making a big statement, I think. We want that dual state title. That’s our next focus now, but we got goals that keep going down the line. We got our conference dual championship. We got our NCC conference championship back at CGD. So now it’s time. Now we have a meet on Monday, then we’re going to focus on getting ready for regional duals.”

Ryan Hartwig at 138, Dawson Beyer at 150, Ryland Morgan at 165 and Easton Beyer at 175 each placed second. Estuardo Lopez was third at 120.

Hampton-Dumont-CAL was third with 148.5 points. Brody Strother was first at 138 for the team’s only title.

“It was gutty,” Head Coach Colin Muller says. “He needed a takedown with about 20 seconds left, and he went out and got it. I think that just speaks to his work ethic and character. Really never letting up and always want to get more points, and it’s exciting to see a senior cap off his conference career like that.”

Madox Strother was second at 113. Luke Showalter at 144, Ryder Strother at 165, Maddon Evans at 215 and Emmett Elling at 285 each placed third.

Wrestling short of a full lineup, Iowa Falls-Alden was seventh with 94 points.

“Coming into the season, we thought maybe a top four or five finish for us would be pretty good,” Head Coach Scott Patton says. “We’re a little banged up right now, got some guys out of the lineup. We’ve been battling that a lot the last month or so. Seems like we get get one guy back and we lose a couple more, just can’t seem to catch a break right now. I think the guys we had wrestling today wrestled well for the most part. Maybe a few didn’t wrestle up to their seeds or their potential, but overall, not a bad day.”

Winning the team’s only title, Zane Gillespie was first at 120. Kolbe Hansen was second at 126, rounding out the team’s podium finishers.
