State and federal officials say bird flu has been confirmed in a flock of pheasants and chickens in Kossuth County, marking the first confirmed case of avian influenza in an Iowa poultry operation this year.
A spokesman for the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship says the flock includes about 7,000 game bird pheasants and 120 backyard chickens.
Gov. Kim Reynolds has issued a proclamation allowing state resources to be used to help dispose of the euthanized birds and disinfect the site in Kossuth County.
