Fuel prices trend higher in Iowa as crude oil jumps

Gas prices are moving higher across Iowa, with the statewide average for regular unleaded now at $2.55 a gallon, according to AAA.

The price is up 8 cents from last week, but still 39 cents lower than a year ago. The national average stands at $2.88, up 5 cents from last week.

Locally, as of Wednesday afternoon according to Gas Buddy, a gallon of regular unleaded is priced at $2.67 in Hampton, $2.49 in Greene, and $2.34 in Clarion.

The increase follows a rise in crude oil prices this week. West Texas Intermediate crude climbed $2.52 per barrel to $62.94, while Brent crude rose $3.08 to $68 a barrel.

Diesel prices in Iowa also increased 8 cents this week, with a statewide average of $3.40. That remains 20 cents lower than the national diesel average of $3.60.
