The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa collected nearly $27 million for federal taxpayers during Fiscal Year 2025, according to a new report released Monday.
U.S. Attorney Leif Olson said the collections included money from civil and criminal debts owed to the federal government, restitution payments to crime victims, and assets forfeited through criminal activity. The office collected more than $23.6 million in civil actions, nearly $2.7 million in criminal actions, and more than $647,000 in forfeited assets.
Olson said holding offenders accountable includes ensuring they pay court-ordered fines and restitution, adding that the office will continue working to return money to victims and recover funds for the federal treasury.
The Department of Justice says criminal fines support the Crime Victims Fund, while forfeited assets are used to assist victims and support law-enforcement operations nationwide.
