Hampton-Dumont-CAL will travel to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows for a North Central Conference basketball doubleheader Thursday, the first meeting between the teams this season. It’ll air on 104.9 KLMJ.

The Bulldog boys will look to snap a three-game losing streak, including Tuesday’s 64-52 loss to Humboldt. That night, they bounced back from a slow start, but it wasn’t enough in the end. Head Coach Matt Lokenvitz says it’ll take a big effort against a team that’s had a strong season so far.

“They’re really good, and they’ve got a junior class that is really athletic, and they’ve got some size,” Lokenvitz says. “It’s gonna take a good game plan. It’s gonna take a lot of energy. It’s gonna take teamwork. We’re gonna have to play really well to beat them. They’ve been up and down a little bit this year. They played close to some teams and then they’ve blown some teams out. So it’s kind of one of those what night do you catch them on? Obviously they’re gonna be really good on their home court.”

The Cowboys have lost three straight, including games against #9 (3A) Clear Lake and #4 (1A) St. Edmond. Head Coach Jason Berning says they’ll need to be ready for a physical game.

“No matter what, we’re going just keep working on the things that we feel are important to make us the team that we want to be,” Berning says. “And that’s locking down on defense and getting out in transition. And then when we do get on in a half court game, just working on finding the best shot possible and just continuing to progress in that way. And they bring a different type of challenge with their size. So we want to just go and compete against that.”

Brady Harr leads the Bulldogs with 20.3 points per game and Chaz Lane scores 16.7 per game to lead the Cowboys.

The Bulldog girls will look to build upon Tuesday’s win over Humboldt, which featured a career-high in scoring for MacKenzy Valley with 35 points. The Cowgirls will look to continue making steps forward as they develop their program.

Pregame coverage will start at 5:45 p.m., followed by the tipoff at 6:00.
