Girls wrestling state qualifying meets will take place Friday. Locally, AGWSR, AP/GC, Hampton-Dumont-CAL and North Butler/Clarksville will compete at the 1A qualifier at Denver, which’ll air on 99 The Wave.

“There’s a ton of teams there, and we’ve just got to come out and wrestle our best, and that’ll be the main focus,” AP/GC Coach Joel Reints says. “You can’t worry too much about who’s in your bracket, what seed you are. You’ve just got to focus on what you can do each match and just go after it.”

Returning 1A runner-up at 120 Grace Storjohann says the meet is a culmination of months and years of preparation.

“All the effort has already been put on in our team,” Storjohann says. “The whole season comes to this point. We’ve worked for months for this. And now it’s just time to perform. There’s nothing we can really learn in the next week. It’s just we got to take everything that we put these last couple months into and just give it all out on the mat for our last time as a full team, basically.”

BCLUW-SH and Iowa Falls-Alden will compete at the qualifier at Williamsburg. West Fork will be at Crestwood.

The top two finishers in each weight class will advance to the state tournament. Coverage will start at 3:45 p.m., followed by the first matches at 4:00.
