The Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs were swept in a doubleheader Friday night in Fort Dodge, losing 48-26 in the girls game and 84-61 in the boys game to the St. Edmond Gaels, which aired on 104.9 KLMJ.
In the girls game, Hampton-Dumont-CAL trailed 30-16 at halftime and was outscored 18-10 in the second half. MacKenzy Valley led the Bulldogs with 16 points. Eden Horn scored a game-high 23 points to lead St. Edmond.
In the boys game, the Bulldogs traded baskets with the Gaels in the first quarter and trailed by four heading into the second. St. Edmond used a 21-14 second quarter to take a 39-29 halftime lead and went on to the 23-point win. Brady Harr led Hampton-Dumont-CAL with 16 points, while Hunter Horn scored 45 to lead the Gaels.
Despite the loss, Head Coach Matt Lokenvitz says he was encouraged by his team’s offensive output and overall effort against a ranked opponent.
“We scored 60 points plus, which is great,” says Lokenvitz. “You’re gonna win a lot of games if you do that against normal opponents. I was proud of the way we fought, proud of the way we knocked down shots tonight, which was great. We are getting better. It’s not materializing yet into wins and we keep getting these closer losses. This one pushed out to 20 there at the end, but we’ve been losing by five or six points, been losing by 10 points. And it’s not coming into wins, but we are getting better. We’re seeing improvement and we just got to keep working.”
The Bulldogs will return to action on Tuesday when they host Iowa Falls-Alden.
