
Gas prices in Iowa are trending lower this week, even as crude oil prices showed mixed movement.
According to AAA, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa is $2.50 per gallon. That’s down 5 cents from last week and 39 cents lower than this time a year ago.
Prices vary locally. As of Wednesday afternoon, GasBuddy reports regular unleaded gasoline priced at $2.67 per gallon in Hampton, $2.55 in Sheffield and $2.79 in Allison.
The national average price for gasoline stands at $2.89, up 1 cent from last week.
Crude oil prices moved in opposite directions. West Texas Intermediate crude rose 40 cents per barrel this week to $63.34, while Brent crude fell 44 cents to $67.56. One year ago, WTI crude sold for just over $73 per barrel, while Brent crude topped $76.
Diesel prices in Iowa also declined. The statewide average fell 3 cents this week to $3.37 per gallon. That’s 5 cents lower than a year ago and 27 cents below the national diesel average of $3.64.
