The Hampton City Council Tuesday held a budget workshop and reviewed fiscal year 2027 budget considerations.
Mark Crawford of Crawford Engineering reviewed the fiscal year 2027 HMA project, outlining proposed pavement work on several residential and arterial streets across the city. Crawford explained the city uses pavement condition ratings to prioritize projects, with several streets scheduled for resurfacing and patching to extend their lifespan and reduce future maintenance costs.
It was noted the original project list exceeded the city’s $700,000 budget, so council members adjusted the plan during the meeting, moving a few streets to an alternate list. The council will review a revised set of priorities at a future workshop.
During his department update, Police Chief Mark Morrison said the Hampton Police Department’s Citizens Academy will not take place this month due to a lack of participants. The department is considering holding the academy later in the year.
