A 66-year-old Rockwell resident was cited for failure to stop within an assured clear distance following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon.

According to a press release from the Rockwell Police Department, officers were called to Highway 65 near the intersection of 170th Street, about one mile north of Rockwell, at about 1:46 p.m. for a rear-end collision.

Police say a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 driven by 25-year-old Spencer Nash of Rockwell was traveling southbound on Highway 65 and preparing to turn east when it was struck from behind by a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu LS driven by William Russeff of Rockwell. The impact caused the Malibu’s airbags to deploy.

The Malibu came to rest on the northbound shoulder, while the Silverado stopped on the southbound shoulder.

No injuries were reported. The Malibu was towed from the scene.

Rockwell Police Chief Cody Brunstein tells RadioOnTheGo News the estimated damage to the Silverado is between $1,500 and $2,000, while the Malibu was considered a total loss.

The Rockwell Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, the Rockwell Fire Department and Mason City Fire Medics.
