
The West Fork basketball teams pulled away in the second half for a pair of wins at rival North Butler in Top of Iowa East play on Tuesday. The West Fork girls won 50-30 and the Warhawk boys won 45-36.
In the girls game, West Fork emerged from a defensive controlled first half with a 24-11 advantage at halftime. The Warhawks increased their lead to 37-24 at the start of the fourth quarter and led by double digits the rest of the way. The Warhawks knocked down five three’s in the game but a bulk of their scoring resulted from getting to the rim.
Zada Huff delivered 20 points to lead the Warhawks. Jady Thorne had eight points to lead the Bearcats.
In the boys game, the Bearcats and Warhawks traded buckets in the first half, as the Bearcats had a slight advantage at 22-21 at the break. The Warhawks outscored the Bearcats 11-7 in the third quarter to take a 32-29 lead heading to the fourth. In a low scoring final frame, the Warhawks took a two possession lead in the closing minutes to secure the win. The Warhawks offense received an extra boost in the game with seven three pointers.
Zander Hansen set the tone with 19 points for the Warhawks. Wrigley Endelman led the Bearcats with 16 points.
It was senior night for North Butler, as they recognized senior basketball players Alexis Rose, Jady Thorne and Izzy O’Dowd for the girls and Jax Thorne for the boys team.
The North Butler boys will return to action at #6 (2A) Grundy Center on Monday, February 9. The Bearcat girls will visit Nashua-Plainfield on Tuesday, February 10.
The West Fork boys will host Clarion-Goldfield-Dows on Thursday and the Warhawk girls will host Nashua-Plainfield on Friday.
