
The Rockwell City Council set a property tax hearing and authorized new traffic safety equipment during its regular meeting Wednesday night.
Council members reviewed the proposed fiscal year 2026-27 property tax levy and set a public hearing for April 1 at 5:30 p.m.
The council also approved the purchase of two lighted stop signs and one speed display sign at an estimated cost of $10,000. Members identified east-west stop signs on B60 as a priority and discussed using speed signs on B60 and Elm Street to address traffic concerns.
In other business, the council agreed on terms and fines for a proposed vacancy tax ordinance, which will be considered at the next meeting. Members also approved the purchase of up to 10 new chairs for city offices.
Council members discussed business development challenges, including limited commercial space, and agreed to support grant applications through the North Iowa Corridor to assist local economic development efforts.
