A Waterloo woman has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for her role in a methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa, 51-year-old Michelle Bruno was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Cedar Rapids after pleading guilty last August to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.
Prosecutors say investigators with the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Task Force made a controlled delivery of methamphetamine to Bruno in May of 2024. Following that delivery, she was found in possession of more than four pounds of meth, along with additional quantities. Authorities say Bruno received roughly 12 pounds of methamphetamine over several months and sent more than $25,000 to her supplier.
Court records show Bruno later admitted to obtaining another kilogram of meth and paying thousands more to settle a drug debt.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams imposed the 240-month sentence, followed by five years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
