For the second straight season, #2 (2A) Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will compete at Saturday’s IHSAA Dual Team State Tournament, with their duals airing on 104.9 KLMJ.
Head Coach Cory Yoder says their domination throughout the season has prepared them for the biggest stage.
“They know how to win,” Yoder says. “They’ve shown they can dominate when they want to. They’ve just got to believe in themselves and their ability. When they get on a roll, it can it can go fast. I’m so excited for this team. They put so much work in. And we’ve we haven’t had a close meet at all in the last month. So we’re on a roll here since with our loss to Decorah. So we’re finding our stride, and the Cowboys will be ready.”
They’ll take on 7-seed Algona in a quarterfinal in a North Central Conference rematch, which the Cowboys won 49-19. Having placed third last season, Yoder says the experienced team is ready to compete in a loaded field.
“Those guys know what it’s like. They they saw it last year. Most of those guys were were on that team. We only lost one senior off that team that went to state duals last year in Caleb Seaba. Everybody was back. It’s going to be new to Reed Campbell down there. It’s high intensity and everybody in Class 2A can be beat. It’s all it’s all going to depend on matchups. Each dual is going to be tough, but we’re three three duals
away from that elusive state championship. We’ve set our goal so high since the beginning of the year. So, we’ll get ready to go and take off on Friday at 3:30, get the Cowboys down there and win us a title.”
Their first of three duals will start at 10:45 a.m., with coverage beginning at 10:30.
