
The Parkersburg City Council heard updates Monday night on several major infrastructure and public service issues facing the city.
Butler County Emergency Management Coordinator Chris Showalter outlined how his department prepares for and responds to disasters, accidents and severe weather events. Public Works Director Tim Kolder provided updates on planned equipment replacements and ongoing repairs to the Main Lift Station, while council members discussed the possibility of a modest utility rate increase to help cover debt service on recent water and sewer projects.
Fire Chief Rus Boersma highlighted the aging condition of grass trucks and tankers and the need to consider replacement options in the near future. Police Chief Bruce Tierney discussed proposed no-parking changes recommended by the city attorney. Librarian Julie Folken shared 2025 statistics showing the library’s impact on the community, including patron usage and cost savings.
The council also approved engineering services for a watermain extension on Newell Avenue and set public hearings for a water plant brine tank replacement project and the fiscal year 2027 budget.
