Two juveniles were injured in a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a semi on Highway 57 in Butler County, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
The crash occurred Tuesday morning when a 2015 Buick LaCrosse, driven by a 15-year-old Parkersburg resident, was traveling eastbound on Highway 57 and attempting to turn onto County Road T55. A westbound 2025 Freightliner semi struck the car while it was in the roadway. The semi was driven by 63-year-old Michael Heideman of Grundy Center and operated by Kruger Farms of Cedar Falls.
The teenage driver and a 14-year-old passenger were both injured in the collision. Authorities said both juveniles were wearing seatbelts. The driver was transported to Allen Hospital in Waterloo, while her sister, the passenger, was airlifted by AirCare to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
With permission from the family, the Dike-New Hartford School District sent an email to families and staff Tuesday morning stating the two involved were district students who are being treated and are expected to be okay.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Rasmusson Towing. The crash remains under investigation.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, MercyOne Ambulance, Cedar Falls Fire Department, New Hartford Fire Department and University of Iowa AirCare.
