Belmond City Council sets property tax hearing, approves project agreements

The Belmond City Council received departmental updates and approved agreements tied to major city projects at its February 2nd meeting. 

City Manager Cody Nicholas updated council members on upcoming budget discussions, while Public Works Director Justin Fournier said crews are reviewing preliminary plans for the city’s wastewater treatment plant upgrade.

Police Chief Dario Gamino and Fire Chief Chandler Bachman presented annual reports, with Bachman noting the fire department has 26 members and responded to 79 calls in 2025, with equipment in good condition.

The council approved supplemental agreements with Veenstra and Kimm for construction services on the 3rd Street NE project and the aquatic center project. A public hearing on the city’s property tax levy for fiscal year 2027 was set for April 6th, and council members approved a residential tax abatement for a new home being built at 215 7th Avenue SE following a fire.
