The North Butler-Clarksville boys wrestling has entered the final stretch of preparation for the IHSAA Class 1A District tournament at Edgewood-Colesburg on Saturday.

The Wolves lineup includes four wrestlers with over 30 wins. Jaxon Shew is 44-5 at 113 and 120. Jack Bartels is 35-19 at 138 and 144. Evan McCormick is 31-21 at 144 and 150. Peyton Knoll is 31-16 at 165. Head Coach Adam Holm notes the importance of being mentally ready for each match.

“We’re just trying to get their minds set, ready and be ready to go each match. If it doesn’t go their way, just be prepared to have that wrestleback match. Even in the first or second, if you lose, you can’t get disheartened,” says Holm. “You know 30 minutes later, more likely you’ll have your wrestleback match. Get your mind set and ready to wrestle at anytime that we have to step on the mat.”

Holm highlights an area of wrestling technique the team is working on ahead of the tournament.

“Sometimes we give up a takedown and have to come back, to get back in the match. We’re just trying to get them to wrestle through tougher positions and understand that not every match is going to be something they can handle, they’re going to have to battle all the way through Saturday.”

The district tournament will begin at 10:00 a.m. in Edgewood on Saturday.
