Clarksville girls basketball opens up postseason play

clarksville-4

Clarksville girls basketball will begin postseason play Thursday night, hosting Northwood-Kensett in a Class 1A Region 2 matchup.

The Indians (15-7) enter the game following a 62-33 loss to St. Ansgar in their regular-season finale. Despite the setback, Clarksville finished second in the Iowa Star Conference North Division standings.

Paige Campman leads the Indians in scoring with 511 total points, averaging 23.2 points per game to finish the regular season as the Iowa Star Conference’s leading scorer. Hannah Wangsness averages 10.8 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game, leading the team in both categories.

As the postseason begins, Head Coach Ross Timmermans says offensive execution will be a key emphasis.

“Offensively we’re going have to continue to shift the ball, move it, collapse it, have some other girls step up and knock some shots down when they’re open, which they did tonight, and look to press the issue, getting to the rim, getting to the free throw line, doing all the little things that end up making big differences come postseason,” Timmermans says.

Northwood-Kensett (4-18) enters the postseason after a regular-season finale win over Central Springs. Avarie Skellenger leads the Vikings with an average of 7.2 points per game.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
