The CAL School Board will meet in regular session Tuesday to set the date and time for public hearings on the district’s fiscal year 2027 budget.
The district is proposing a property tax rate of $9.66, down from the current $9.75. Despite the lower rate, total revenue is expected to rise, as increasing operating costs are outpacing state-allocated revenue, requiring greater reliance on the district’s cash reserve levy.
Board members will also discuss class reconfiguration for next year. The upper elementary grades are projected to be large, while current fifth- and sixth-grade classrooms are among the smallest in the building. The discussion will include improving student locker assignments, relocating the teacher workroom, and exploring ways to better integrate art with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), strengthening the district’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) programs.
The meeting begins Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in Latimer.
