Milestones don’t always come with wins, but Friday night still marked a historic moment for Hampton-Dumont-CAL.

Senior Brady Harr became just the seventh player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points, finishing with 18 points, but the Bulldogs fell to Clear Lake, 63-51.

Hampton-Dumont-CAL dug itself into an early hole, trailing by 13 after the first quarter as the Lions shot the ball well and controlled the tempo. The Bulldogs responded by outscoring Clear Lake in both the second and third quarters, trimming the deficit to five midway through the fourth before the Lions closed it out.

After the game, Harr credited those around him for the milestone.

“I can’t thank them and coaches enough about this because if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be able to score,” says Harr. “And the way I can pass to them and I can rely on them the same way they can rely on me, I think that just helped guide me to 1,000 points.”

Head Coach Matt Lokenvitz says the effort against another ranked opponent continues to show the Bulldogs’ growth late in the season.

“We’re down five points, about four and a half left to go in the fourth quarter, and our kids are battling and doing everything that we want to do,” says Lokenvitz. “It just, again, we late game situations had Caden Woods open underneath, threw it out of bounds, got Hunter, one of our better three point shooters, open in the wing, and he just a little bit tight shooting the ball. You know, just the nerves get to you a little bit in late game situations. Trey’s foul trouble, and he’s battling an ankle, he is a tough kid right now, just battling that thing. I’m so proud of the way that they handled themselves and came in here to compete on a back to back and gave the number six team in the state a run for their money.”

The Bulldogs finish their regular season with a 5-9 North Central Conference record while finishing 7-14 overall.

On Monday, the state will release postseason pairings which will determine what is next for the Bulldogs.
