Aplington-Parkersburg will host South Winneshiek in a 2A Region 4 quarterfinal girls basketball playoff game Tuesday, which’ll air on 99 The Wave. It’ll be the fourth meeting in five seasons in the same round.
The Falcons (14-8) enter the playoffs on an eight-game win streak, which has featured mostly blowout performances. They’ll look to continue the momentum of their regular season finale, where they had three players score in double figures while shooting 45 percent.
South Winneshiek (13-8) has alternated results in its last five games, including a 61-47 loss to Crestwood in the regular season finale. AP Coach Brady Driscol says the Warriors are an improved team compared to previous meetings.
“Completely different team from the last few years that we played them,” Driscol says. “They’re having a good year. Looks like they got a couple good players, couple good sized kids. They play hard. They press, they run kind of how we’ve been in the past. They kind of done that now themselves. Even their losses that they have this year are very close losses. So they’re in every game. So you know that based on 21, 22 games of work that they’ve had, they’re in every game. So we’ve got to imagine that we’ll be in for a dogfight on Tuesday night. And we’ve been in some close games too. Both teams are well equipped and we’ll have to show up and play hard, know the scout pretty well and hopefully take care of business.”
Chloe Wiltgen leads with 11.8 points per game.
Pregame coverage will start at 6:45 p.m., followed by the tipoff at 7:00. The winner will advance to Friday’s regional semifinal against either Sumner-Fredericksburg or #4 (2A) Denver.
