DNH seeking upset of Mount Vernon in girls basketball playoffs

dnh-2

The Dike-New Hartford girls basketball team will look to play spoiler when they travel to #1 (3A) Mount Vernon Wednesday for a 3A Region 3 semifinal. It’ll air on 99 The Wave.

DNH (13-10) is coming off Saturday’s 37-34 win over Hampton-Dumont-CAL in the first round, where they overcame cold shooting and 24 turnovers for a gritty win.
Mount Vernon (20-2) has as good a resume as any team in Class 3A, with the only losses happening against ranked 5A teams in December. They defeated West Liberty 75-17 in Saturday’s first round to advance. DNH Coach Matt Dove says it’ll be a major opportunity for the team.

“Excited about the opportunity,” Dove says. “Anytime you can play a big-time opponent, no matter when it is, you certainly look forward to that opportunity. I’ve met Coach Misener a couple times, he works with Carson Parker down in Cedar Rapids, I know he’s a really good coach. They got really good players, so we’ll see if we can come up with a game plan. But I know our kids will be ready to go down there and compete, and that’s what that’s what you’ve got to do this time of year. You’ve got to have a short memory, good or bad, move on, get ready for the next one, and we’ll get ready for Mount Vernon.”

Pregame coverage will start at 6:45 p.m., followed by the tipoff at 7:00. The winner will advance to a regional final against either Pella Christian or #12 (3A) Mid-Prairie.
