The North Butler girls basketball team fell 69-32 at #5 (2A) Emmetsburg in a Class 2A Region 5 quarterfinal on Tuesday, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ.
Emmetsburg used relentless full-court pressure and a trapping half-court defense to fuel a 43-10 halftime advantage. The E-Hawks after building a 35 point lead triggered the running clock rule early in the third quarter. Regardless of the score, the Bearcats continued to compete and were nearly even with the E-Hawks in the second half, getting outscored just 24-22. Head Coach Jordan Nolz highlights the Bearcats effort.
“We’re definitely proud that the kids never quit. We talked about it at halftime and the start of the game, Emmetsburg a really, really good team with a lot of size,” says Nolz. “We knew going in it was going to be a tough matchup. I am really happy with how hard our girls played the whole time.”
In her final game as a Bearcat, senior Jady Thorne swished her 100th career three pointer and finished the night with a team leading 10 points. Nolz reflects on the accomplishments of Thorne from beyond the arc.
“She’s got the career record I think by six now with that hundred, so definitely a cool thing. She has the career record, I think she’s second in a season and then she’s got the most in the game. It’s really awesome that she’s able to have all those records. That’s something that she can take with her into the future.”
Senior Izzy O’Dowd added seven points and sophomore Eden Wix had six points to help lead the Bearcats.
North Butler concluded their season at 11-12 overall.
