The #6 (2A) Aplington-Parkersburg boys basketball team will host Crestwood Tuesday for the 2A District 7 Final, which’ll air on 99 The Wave.
The Falcons extended their win streak to 10 games and began the playoffs with Thursday’s 79-55 win over Dike-New Hartford, where they shot nearly 40 percent from 3-point range while committing only nine turnovers.
Crestwood (18-5) has won four straight, including Thursday’s 80-57 win over Waukon to begin postseason play. They’re led by Luke Drtina and Drake Sir, who each score 14 points per game. AP Coach Aaron Thomas expects a physical matchup.
“They’ve got two guys who really, really score the basketball,” Thomas says. “We’re going to have to limit them. They drive and put a lot of pressure on you defensively. They shoot the three at a pretty good clip. They’ve got some depth and play multiple guys. So it’s going to be a battle. We’ve got to be physical with some of the size that they got inside. We’re going to have to contain the drive and be able to contest. We’ve got to know where their shooters are. They’re a good team. We’re going have be ready to go. For them to beat Waukon handily, who I think is also another pretty good team, it’s going to be a stern test, and we’ve got to make sure we’re ready to play our best basketball.”
Pregame coverage will start at 6:45 p.m., followed by the tipoff at 7:00. The winner will advance to a substate final on Saturday against either Monticello or Cascade.
